Queen Mary Wing Temporary Heating Plant

H&V Building Services Ltd was contacted to urgently investigate the loss of heating to the Queen Mary Wing of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

The existing plant which had reached its life expectancy had operationally failed except for one boiler that was unable to cope with the system demand.

H&V Building Services managed to implement a quick fix solution by replacing one of the existing primary pumps, getting an additional boiler up and running.

The heating plant serving this wing was in the early stages of the complete plant replacement design and working alongside the design team we selected a boiler from the proposed design scheme for a permanent replacement, procured and installed this boiler into a new temporary pipework system which will allow the future complete replacement of the heating plant alongside the temporary boiler installation.

The works consisted of:

  • Removal of 1 No. exiting heating Boilers, 4 No. HWS Boilers, HWS Buffer Vessels, Circulation Pumps, Associated pipework, Water Tanks and Control Panel
  • Installation of 7 No. New Heating Boilers
  • Installation of New Boiler Flue System
  • Installation of 7 No. New Primary Heating Pumps
  • Installation of 8 No. New Secondary Heating Pumps
  • Installation of 2 No. new LTHW to HWS Plate Heat Exchangers
  • Installation of 4 No. new HWS Buffer Vessels
  • Installation of New HWS Secondary Return Pumps
  • Installation of 2 No. new 24,000litre cold water storage tanks
  • Installation of new Heating, Hot Water and Cold Water Distribution Pipework
  • Installation of new Trend Control System form 4 control Panel
