Appliance Bay Door Renewal

We were employed by LFB to renew the appliance bay doors to both stations to improve the accessibility of the appliance bays including improving the thermal performance and operational speed of the doors. Both stations were fully operational 24/7 throughout the project and the work was phased to provide at least one working bay at any given time.

Daily communication was essential to maintain safe, secure, and operational stations at all times. Aside from the logistic difficulties, the works were carried out at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and strict practices were required to protect all personnel and operatives from the virus. The works were carried out successfully within programme, budget and without incident.

The works consisted of:

  • Removal of existing appliance bay doors, including disconnection of all related services, power, heating controls and operational controls
  • Installation of new automated appliance bay doors, including structural steelwork supports and bespoke aluminium flashings
  • Removal of concrete apron hardstanding, including renewal of same incorporating new Aco drainage and finished resin application and thermoplastic lining
  • Provision of new distribution boards, isolators and general power to doors, including alterations to fire alarm detector and break glasses
  • Provision of new door control panels complete with heater interfaces, photocells and traffic light arrangements including door access control
  • Modifications to gas-fired heaters including the provision of new high-level heaters, control system and BMS
  • All testing, commissioning, demonstration and O&M Manual submission
