Surrey University employed H&V Building Services to fully refurbish and remodel various WCs over 3 floors to the Student Union & Rubix Nightclub to provide a new vibrant facility in readiness for the new term. In conjunction with general refurbishment, the level 03 area was remodelled from a male / female WC facility to a new shared facility. The works were carried out with a week’s lead-in with a deadline of 9 weeks that had to be met for Freshers Week. Both the mechanical / plumbing & electrical elements were engaged as contractors design.

The key to the success of the project was procuring all key packages at an early stage together with close liaison with the client end-user and design team on a daily basis. The project was completed on time and was the overall winner in the “Loo of the year” awards 2019 – 2020, along with a number of other awards.

The works consisted of:

• Complete strip-out of all services, sanitaryware, floor finishes and cubicles together with the removal of various non-load bearing blockwork walls
• New finishes throughout including vinyl floor finishes, Altro Whiterock and Digiclad wall finishes, skimming walls/ceilings and decorations throughout
• New plasterboard partitions, MF Ceilings and suspended ceilings inclusive of various bulkheads
• New SGL Laminate WC cubicles, vanity units and hung urinal panelling
• New lighting throughout including localised power to new handryers, fire alarm alterations and minor data installation
• New Resin WCs and vanity troughs complete with sensor flow taps including renewing all new piped and waste services together with new ventilation systems to certain WCs
